Every time I open my laptop, to try and choreograph my thoughts, in this white piece of paper, I fail…
All the thoughts and words that I frame so well in my mind, somehow oozes out of me, when I stare at this sheet of blank paper.
After the multitude of failed attempts at this, I have decided to just write on about how these thoughts form and maybe just think about them, as I write.
So, it all started with me asking myself…
“Why do I think, what I think?”
So, why did I think to ask myself this question??
“That is a very good question, I ask myself now…”
The answer, I guess is that the external influences and my mental stability/state, was in such a manner at that time that it made me ask myself that question.
As, I asked myself this question, over a significant portion of time, I understood/noticed a few things.
A lot of what we actually think, is but a reflection of how our subconscious has been conditioned, influenced or affected. Our wants, desires, choices, decisions and thoughts are driven to a very large extent by, how our subconscious has been structure.
We are seldom awake was my conclusion, because true consciousness (verb) lies in the subconscious.
I also realized that the subconscious gets affected, modified and influenced by all the external stimuli that we absorb every single second of our conscious moment.
What we see, what we read, what we hear, what we smell and what we feel…
The five senses are the input devices that influence the changes in our subconscious. Layer, over layer, we gain to our core, oblivious to the changes it does to us as a person. As I started closely watching/observing, this process, often by introspecting on why did I respond the way I did, I realized every action of mine, actually had a very concrete root, embedded in my subconscious. At times, it was shallow and from the near past, while sometimes these roots, where quite deeply hidden, from incidents that happened, years ago, beneath lots of layers of other stuff.
It was all quite there to see, but then, it was not actually that easily visible. I tried connecting the dots, after some incident happened. I kept observing my actions and tried to find the reasons for my behavior, and how it was being influenced by the external conditioning I have received over the years. In such a way, I proceeded in my pursuit of the answer.
The process of removing all those layers of conditioning and how it affected me, well that is a discussion for another day and that would demand an entire piece, in itself.
So, with this understanding of how the human subconscious is actually being influenced by external stimuli, and with the knowledge that the human consciousness is driven largely by the triggers of the subconscious.
I actually realized we can now tailor/choreograph the stimulus and make a person behave in a way, we want him to behave. The reason being that majority of people do not actually, see through these influences and do not comprehend how it affects their conscious decision making.
“This is exactly what in some sense the function of marketing, branding and such, scientifically do. As an aside, my personal belief is that the very core tenet of management science is but, human psychology. That again, is a topic for another day.”
The above written explanation, is the base behind, what I am trying to put forth…
You are Born – “A clean slate, blank mind…”
By the time you join school – “Language is embedded in you system. The mother tongue and any language you hear.”
Formal Education – School/College – The other parts of human civilization is loaded to your system. Writing, Numbers, History, Science, etc etc. Your family and the society, imparts the value systems, religion, in some cases even castist divisions and such.
This part of the human journey is very important, the layers are added on to you, at an age where you blindly believe everything you see, hear or read. It took me, years to break my dogma and beliefs (Layers), which had been built at a young age. That is also a reason, why state controlled public education systems are a very good mechanism to control the thinking of the future population.
As an aside again, for me the single most powerful people in the world are the school teachers and children story book writers. The impact they have on hordes of the future population is something that is immeasurable.
The other reality is also that education is a right that is yet to reach everyone. That is a bigger fight and cause worth championing for. The fortune of birth is a puzzle that I am yet to confront, I stopped myself short of asking the question “Why Me?”
The Adult Human – The basic drivers like, power, money and fame.
Again, they are basic human tenets that are driven by some root in the psychological makeup of the human being. A person who has seen poverty and suffered a rough life, would want to never see that again in his life and would be driven towards ensuring financially stability at all costs.
The example is far too simplistic and I am feeling a bit embarrassed to have given it, because what drives a person is not something that can be explained that easily. It is a concoction of emotions, thoughts and subconscious elements. The labyrinth of human thought, is something that is far too confounding and if it can be explained or codified, all of human suffering can be eradicated.
The human condition is also explained by the race. The way he runs, ever in pursuit of a goal that he keeps pushing higher. His targets keep changing, with the stimuli he receives.
What used to be an aspiration, becomes a parity and the new dream is something higher.
So, is it wrong?
I ask myself…
“Often, I ask myself and those around me. How much money, do I/you actually need per month to live a happy life. Can I/you fix that amount and say that I will never again need anything more than that ??
But is contentment the solution, what would humans do with their time, if they do not have targets to achieve.
Will they truly be happy??
What is happiness?
How would you spend your time?
The solution is not so simple and the system in its present state is flawed, but do we have a better system.”
Till now, we talked about a single human. Scale the entire setting to a system which has 7 Billion such beings, living together in an enclosed environment called earth.
To have order in a system with such complexity, requires a lot of structures and policies…
I will stop at that, what I have written after this, is for another day…
So then, have anyone of you asked yourselves?
“Why do you think, what you think?”
I guess, we all should do that a lot more…
Collating my thoughts, on this was difficult. I have given it a shot and the thought flow, by the end was shooting out in many varied directions. I was unable to streamline the flow and by the end it just blew out of proportion. When I read the piece, I am not sure what I actually wanted to tell at the beginning.
Would love your comments!!
